Spyros Metaxa moved to Piraeus with his two brothers in 1880 to start a new life. He bought some vineyards in this region which eventually inspired him to create the now world-famous Greek spirit Metaxa.

First, the brandy was only exported to the United States but soon the Greek brandy producer invited people from all over the world to taste the spirit of Greece out of a Metaxa bottle. Today the drink is popular in more than 130 countries.
